Brides today are increasingly sensitive to the tastes, feelings and finances of their attendants. It’s sometimes said that I’m rebellious and I do things to push people’s buttons, but I just like the challenge. I think the idea of mixing luxury and mass-market fashion is very modern, very now no one wears head-to-toe designer anymore.

Delete the negative, accentuate the positive! I am always locked in my design studio. Men have got more of a discerning eye. They appreciate cut and details, things that aren’t so obvious. They like things that have cachet and gentlemanliness. I love a black wedding dress. We look our best in subdued colors, sophisticated cuts, and a general air of sleek understatement.

Age is something only in your head or a stereotype. Age means nothing when you are passionate about something. Money doesn’t buy elegance. You can take an inexpensive sheath, add a pretty scarf, gray shoes, and a wonderful bag, and it will always be elegant. Beauty is perfect in its imperfections, so you just have to go with the imperfections. Women are more sure of themselves today. They don’t have to emulate the way men dress. Today, I’m very happy about myself, because I realized my dreams. I learned how to understand what people want.

I can’t get sucked into that celebrity thing, because I think it’s just crass. First I made a dress because I was pregnant and I wanted to be the most beautiful pregnant woman. Then I made a sweater because I wanted to have one that wasn’t like anyone else’s. I always loved aesthetics. Not particularly fashion, but an idea of beauty. Never in my wildest dreams did I entertain the idea that I would become a fashion designer. Money is the most corrosive aspect of life today because it means that all attention to detail is forgotten.
